What is UI?
“User interface design (UI) or user interface engineering is the design of user interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximizing usability and the user experience. The goal of user interface design is to make the user’s interaction as simple and efficient as possible, in terms of accomplishing user goals” (Wikipedia)
In the world dominated by technology and devices UI is as important as anything else in the product development process. Simply put, good UI helps to make the user’s life easy. In the earlier blog we discussed about the future of UX. Here we will discuss about the components which needs to be taken care of while UI design.
How to add ‘Story’ in UI?
For any user, best experience or interface is personal. The more personal it gets the better. It helps the user to connect with it rather than being a guest.
1. Use real images
Era of stock photos are almost over. There is nothing as much awkward as finding the same image you used somewhere else. Using real images will cut down that awkward possibility. For the user it is a sign of authenticity.
Custom messages or personalized messages is the new black. For example interacting with using his/her first name, personal wishes (anniversaries, birthdays, etc.). It helps the user to build up a connection. Custom messages should replace generic messages which are non-personal.
Social media Plugins are important in any UI. Social media is the gateway to building a brand in virtual space. To update and inform the followers. More social media presence a brand has more authentic it is. In this digital age having no social media presence is so old school (no, in a bad way).
4. Interactive content
Interactive contents helps to engage users. Audio visual content is one way communication and there are limitations in getting information from the user. Whereas Interactive contents, let’s say for example using java scripts can actually be employed to generate more personalized information from the user.
Today few UI relies on mascots, but in near future there will be more – because AI. Mascots will help the user to establish personal connection. Maybe with the development of VR, Joi of ‘Bladerunner 2049’ is the future.
In the next blog post we will discuss about Navigation.
